Research & Development

For over 30 years, SM Biomed Sdn. Bhd. have specialised in developing and manufacturing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), especially Macrolides based antibiotics.

We have a well-established Research and Development centre located within the premises of SM, where its primary focus is on the development and optimization of new and existing process technologies, in support of the manufacturing of API.

Our R&D center has been expanding and growing and now we have a strong team of well experienced scientists from some of the top institutes in the world. Throughout the years, our dedicated R&D team has developed molecules across several therapeutic areas.

Some of the areas where the R&D center has excelled include;

• The current API process development protocol extensively involves principles of quality by design (QbD), design of experiments (DOE) and risk analysis so that robust and cost-effective processes are established.
• R&D has developed and commercialized process for complex APIs with Macrolide Antibiotics as our major area of interest.
• Special focus is on developing safe and effective processes that are environment friendly.
• Protection of Intellectual Property on products developed for various countries.
• Contract Research and Manufacturing Services (CRAMS).
